Online ESE Parent Informational Meeting Thursday, August 20th from 4-5 pm

DPSCD Families,

Please join us this Thursday, August 20th from 4-5 p.m. for an online Exceptional Student Education (ESE) meeting. This meeting will help you have the information you need for the opening of school. Please use the following link to access the meeting Teams Link

By attending the meeting, you will receive the following information:

  • An overview of ESE referral and evaluation process
  • What an IEP (Individualized Education Program) is and what it includes
  • Services available for ESE students (Speech, Social Work, OT/PT, Nursing, others)
  • Your rights as a parent at every stage of the process
  • Who to contact at your child’s school with questions or concerns

After providing this information, families will be able to ask questions specifically about ESE. Later this month, we will also have an in-person community meeting about ESE.

If you have any immediate ESE related questions or need support, please contact our ESE Department about:

  • Your child's IEP or 504 Plan
  • Requesting an Evaluation
  • Questions about eligible services or school placement

The ESE hotline is 313-873-7740 or submit a question at detroitk12.org/Contact , and one of our staff will reach out to you.

Sincerely,

Nikolai P. Vitti, Ed.D.

Superintendent
